Gloucester looked for revenge over Sale after their Aviva Premiership clash with them came to nothing.

First Half:
Gloucester got off to the ideal start with a Vainikolo try just thirty seconds in. The Tongan born winger powered past several Sale Sharks defenders to give Gloucester a five point lead. Burns converted.

But a try from Richie Vernon a few minutes later reduced Gloucester’s lead to just two points. Macleod successfully converted and the scores were levelled. Burns missed a penalty on the eight minute mark so the scores remained unchanged...

A strong run from Jonny May looked promising but Gloucester impeded and Macleod capitalized, taking the opportunity for three points.

The two consistent kickers, Burns and Macleod, both added more points to their sides scores. James Gaskell was later sinbinned for repeating a previous offence. Burns scored the subsequent penalty meaning Gloucester held 13-10 lead.

Andrew Higgins scored on the twenty-first minute after the ball was shipped through the hands of many Sale attackers who came up against a scrambled home defence. Macleod converted making the score 17-3 to the visiting side.

After an initial fumbled catch from Charlie Sharples, Jonny May gained the ball and ran through at least five Sale attackers to score in spectacular style. Burns converted and the lead changed hands once again.

Macleod made a final attempt before half time but the kick missed the target and Sale went into the break trailing by 17 points to 20.

2nd Half:

The worse possible start came for Gloucester as Miller scored within 5 minutes of the restart. A fairly consistent Macleod converted and Sale held a 24-20 lead.

After a long injury pause, where Burns left the field with a blood injury to the head, Gloucester had time to regroup and refocus after Miller’s early try. The crowd became restless after three reset scrums in which former Gloucester prop, Alasdair Dickinson, was sinbinned. A Luke Narraway try followed the sinbinning and Gloucester led 27 points to 24.

Macleod scored a penalty which, little did he know, would be the final points of the game for Sale but the scores levelled yet again at 27-27.

What followed was a mass of tries from Gloucester. Scott Lawson, who returned from the World Cup, came up with the first one for the bonus point. Burns successfully converted.

Sharples and Burns both scored in the last five minutes, to round off a 58-27 win for Gloucester. The 9,000 strong crowd certainly got their money’s worth after a spectacular win for Gloucester!
