Ulster travelled to Welford Road to take on the might of Leicester Tigers in Round 2 of the Heineken Cup. This seasons Heineken Cup pool stages were already looking to be very competitive after some near upsets in the first round. The first half was a dull forty minutes of rugby but midway through the second half, Ben Youngs made his return from injury and did so in style.

The first half consisted of no more than penalty goals. Humphreys opened early on for Ulster and Flood responded in the seventh minute. That sequence repeated itself two more times before the end of the half making the score 9-9 at the break.

Leicester Tigers prop Marcos Ayerza on the chargeBen Youngs made his way onto the field on the hour mark and he seemed to make the difference. He revitalised Leicester and his arrival prompted the games only try from Matt Smith. Smith went over the line after a kick from Toby Flood was perfectly placed for the 26-year-old to touch it down.

On top of a penalty earlier in the half and one right at the death, it meant Leicester took a 20-9 victory over Ulster, putting them at the top of pool 4, despite being two places from the bottom of the Aviva Premierhsip table.
