Apologies are due... it’s been a couple of weeks since my last blog as I’ve been rather busy at work and at Lanark RFC.

We’ve had another substantial away trip, this time to Cowal RFC, and again it involved a coach and a ferry trip, so there was lots of fun to be had that day. But before the fun we had a game of rugby to play.

Two long, hard and tiring trips back to back take their toll on our squad. As we’re not a professional squad and we do not pay our players, we depend on them wanting to be part of the team, we depend on them to give up their Saturdays to be part of the team, we depend on them to fundraise and seek sponsorship.

So with a number of boys out because of; work, injury, family commitments and other reasons, we travelled with only a 17 man squad to a very difficult fixture. Although we were light in backs replacements, the team we had were more than capable of the task in hand. This was apparent when the full time whistle went and we had won 37–0.

This all means that we’re now one game closer to our second league title in as many years. We’ve four games left this season with our next at home this Saturday to Bishopton. I’ll update you next week to let you know how we got on.

Lanark's Big Screen
Saturday past, we set up a big screen at our clubhouse to watch the Ireland v Scotland game. It was a good game to watch, some good rugby from both teams and the one thing that has been strong for Scotland in years gone past is their defence. It let us down on Saturday! That was never a yellow card for Max Evans.

I watched the France v England game from the comfort of my own couch and I can tell you that was a fantastic game of rugby and... a game that England deserved to win. They were playing some brilliant rugby, as to were France, but England were very good! They did switch off a little at the end though.

What is it with coaching scandal at the SRU and RFU? Stuart Lancaster is obviously doing a very good job, but he looks to be out and Sean Linnen at Glasgow Warriors is doing a brilliant job and he is out for Gregor Townsend. I cannot work that out, what are your thoughts on that one?

Final note from me. Does your club have a Twitter account? We do and what a fantastic tool it is for getting big names to spread the word about your club. If you stay professional in what you’re saying, then you can pick up some fantastic re-tweets or RT as it is known in the Twitter world. In the last week we have had RT from the SRU, RBS, Glasgow Warriors, Edinburgh Rugby, Stuart Hogg, Graeme Morrison and Scrumfive! Well worth a look if you want to get your club’s name out there!

Follow Lanark on Twitter, join them on Facebook and watch their YouTube highlights!
