France scrum-half Dimitri Yachvili makes a break
Last year's runners up, England, bowed out of the Rugby World Cup 2011 after a big comeback from France after they lost to Tonga. England put on a late show and didn't play well enough throughout the entire first half and remained on zero points for about the first hour of the match. Two French tries from Medard and Clerc in the first half gave France a boost.

England opened strongly and made strong breaks but basic handling errors were made on every half-decent attack meaning they failed to get any points for all of the first half. But when England did finally score it was ugly and fumbled. But Foden's try was a little better than Cueto's struggle to get the ball down. Click read more to view the report.

Two early penalties got France off the mark and they took a 6-0 lead. The two French tries followed but neither were converted.

With France in a 16-0 lead, England made several strong breaks but stupid errors were made causing the attacks to stop. They conceded penalty after penalty and many of the mistakes seemed to be coming from usually reliable Mark Cueto.

But England finally got on the scoreboard with a Foden try, 14 minutes into the second half. Wilkinson converted and England were ready to score more. However, England's hopes were dampened further by Trinh-Duc who scored a drop goal and made the score 19-7.

Mark Cueto made a last gasp attempt for the line which the TMO confirmed, but it was too late. Flood missed the conversion and the game was effectively over.

France got hold of the ball and kicked it to touch, sending them to the semi-finals and sending most of the England players back to Aviva Premiership rugby.
