Thomas Waldrom, who narrowly missed out on an England place in the World Cup, has discussed the Heineken Cup so far and Leicester's Round 2 match with Ulster. Leicester beat Aironi in Round 1 of the competition but Waldrom understands that they will have to improve and is aware of the threat posed by the other teams in the tournament.

With every team having a goal in the tournament, Waldrom knows that Leicester have to get as many wins as possible to proceed in the competition.

"You have to take each game as it comes and aim to take as many points as you can. The initial aim has to be to get out of the pool stage and see what happens.

It is a very tough pool. Aironi played well against us and have only given up two bonus points in their season so far. Clermont have a massive forward pack and some big names in the backs. Ulster are a solid team who got to the quarter-finals last season so it is a tough pool."

We asked the Leicester No. 8 which team he thinks will be the one to watch but he knows that with so many good teams its not easy to pick.

"When you have the top six teams from England, the top six teams from France, and the top teams from Ireland, Wales, Scotland and Italy it really is tough to pick out one team. The standard is that good. Everyone is strong and you have to be on your game week in and week out in the Heineken Cup."

Despite Leicesters solid victory over Aironi at the weekend, Waldrom explained that Leicester need to take their opportunities to improve.
"We need to take our opportunities. I think we left a few out there which cost us one point. We have to work on making sure we take those opportunities when they come next time around."

Every player has a goal and this is what Thomas said when we asked him his.
"My aim is just to do my best for the Tigers. Anything I can do for the team to get the result that we are after."

With so many good young players breaking through this season, Waldrom told us which young Leicester players he thinks will shine in this seasons Heineken Cup.

"There could be a few. Niall Morris on the wing has some pace and some good skills and scored a try last week. It’s a shame that Ben Youngs has been injured but Sam Harrison has stepped up and shown what a good asset he is to the squad. You need those young guys, and when they get their opportunity hopefully they can step up."
