O'Connell, has suffered ligament damage and will miss the remainder of Ireland's Six Nations matches. The Irish legend remained on the field for the full eighty minutes at the Stade de France despite suffering the injury. He is expected to miss between three and four weeks.
Ulster scrum-half Conor Murray collapsed in agony during the match and will miss the rest of the tournament with a knee injury. Along with the injury to O'Connell, Ireland have lost two influential players but Munster scrum-half Tomas O'Leary and Connacht forward Mike McCarthy have been called up to cover for the injured players.
