After a whole season of acting head coaches it is rumoured that Justin Burnell and Gareth Baber are set to leave the Cardiff Blues.

Phil Davies
New Blues Director of Rugby Phil Davies is currently reviewing the squad and management team and it looks as if Burnell and Baber are not the right men for the direction Davies wants to go with the Welsh Region.

Both Burnell and Baber have a year left on their contracts and both worked under former Head Coach Dai Young before he left the Blues to take up a role at London Wasps, where he remains. Burnell was forwards coach for Young with Baber holding the role of Backs coach. Under the guidance of Young, they won the Amilin Challenge Cup in 2010 and reached the Semi-Finals of the Heineken Cup in 2009.

When Dai Young left before last season, the pair were put in charge of the Blues on a temporary basis but ended up being much longer than expected due to the Cardiff board delaying the appointment of a replacement for Young. The Blues didn’t do too well in the domestic competitions; however they were the only Welsh region to reach the Quarter finals of the Heineken Cup.

Phil Davis is said to be thinking of bringing in his friend and former Wales and British and Irish Lions Scrum Half Robert Jones for the role of Backs Coach and it is believed that Davis will concentrate more towards the Blues pack.

The Blues have recently announced that they are to return to the Cardiff Arms Park for the 2012-2013 season.
