- Martin Johnson steps down as England boss
England manager, Martin Johnson, has stepped down from his job after a disappointing World Cup. The 41 year old led England in the Rugby World Cup but their off-field controversies reflected on a less than impressive performance on the field. Having won the Six Nations with England everything looked good for Martin Johnson but as the World Cup came along the media widely publicized England's failures which identified problems in the England coaching team.
The England side crashed out of the World Cup in the quarter-finals against eventual runners-up, France. Whether England deserved to get as far as they did is another matter. Johnson won the Rugby World Cup with England 8 years ago in what was one of the greatest years in English rugby. Martin Johnson captained that side and lifted the trophy for England. He made eighty-four appearances for his country, starting all but two of them.
