Saracens travelled to the East-Midlands in a bid to defend their Premiership crown by making it to the final. However, one thing stood in their way – Leicester Tigers.

This game had a similar start to the day’s earlier semi-final with a selection of penalties building up most of the scores but Alesana Tuilagi got the first try in his last game for Leicester.

Saracens head coach Andy Farrell has turned down the chance to permanently become a part of Stuart Lancaster's coaching team with England.

Saracens and the RFU had been in negotiations after Stuart Lancaster confirmed he wanted Farrell to become a part of his coaching team following his stint in the interim coaching team for the Six Nations.

However, Farrell has declined England's offer and has opted to stay with Aviva Premiership champions Saracens where his son Owen Farrell plays domestic rugby.

Leicester captain Geordan Murphy won the game for his side with a last gasp drop goal that provided the crucial lead. Russell Hargreaves was at Vicarage Road and caught up with the man of the moment Murphy as well as Richard Cockerill, Schalk Brits and Mark McCall.

Northampton put 24 points past Quins to seal victory at Franklin’s Gardens. The win puts the Heineken Cup runners-up into third place in the Aviva Premiership table. Jim Mallinder was pleased with his side's performance and said "Defensively we shut them up and stopped them playing, which of course they are good at, so we're very pleased.”

After Saracens' victory over the previously unbeaten Harlequins, Talking Rugby's Russell Hargreaves caught up with Alex Goode and Andy Saull of Saracens, Harlequins centre Matt Hopper, Conor O'Shea and Mark McCall.

The game was a sell-out and saw just two tries, one from Saracens' David Strettle and one from Harlequins' Joe Marler, but provided a great day out for the Twickenham crowd who were entertained my X Factor contestants in the build-up to kick-off and at half time.

In front of a sell-out Twickenham crowd, it was a top-of-the-table London derby at the home of English rugby as reigning Aviva Premiership champions, Saracens, took down the previously unbeaten, Harlequins.

Last season many of us believed that Leicester and Northampton had the strongest squads and would easily be champions and we weren't wrong. Saracens were certainly in the mix last season but wouldn't have been considered as the strongest side.However, this season they are most definitely in the top 2 for most people, if not the top team. Following Saracens late comeback against Gloucester with Brad Barritt scoring the crucial try and Owen Farrell the winning conversion, the coaching teams spoke to the press and reflected on the game. Mark McCall, Saracens Director of Rugby, and Bryan Redpath, Gloucester head coach, spoke to the media.

Premiership champions, Saracens have confirmed the re-signings of three of their best players ahead of the new Premiership season.

The entire coaching staff at Saracens have signed contracts until 2014.


The Premiership title holders staff include Andy Farrell, father of fly-half Owen, Mark McCall, Director of Rugby, Brendan Venter, controversial Technical Director as well as Paul Gustard, Alex Sanderson and Dan Vickers. All of these names have committed to the London Based club for the next three years up to 2014.
